On the Carribean side, Barking Horse Farm has teamed up with with a Kindred Spirits, where you will be finishing your vacation and going on some great beach rides with their horses. After a day of riding enjoy a swim in the pool and rest in comfort in the lovely appointed rooms and gardens of the Magellin Inn in the quiet village of Cahuita.

8 nights lodging, 6 days of riding, all transportation and meals for only

Day 1: Be picked up from your flight and taken by private taxi the 1 hour ride to the Barking Horse Farm nestled high in the mountains. Rest and relax in the warm natural environment of tropical Costa Rica.






Day 2: Tabarcia de Mora: After a healthy and hearty breakfast begin your riding adventure with the ride to Tabarcia de Mora for a local lunch in a small town. Along the way cross through a river and over a suspension bridge.





Day 3: Puente de Hierro: Today start out with the ride to Puente de Hierro. Ride along a ridge with 360 degree views and cool off with a dip in the refreshing waters of a rushing river.





OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERADay 4: Trapiche Tour: A sweet treat is in store for you. Today you will ride through a private farm to visit a traditional sugar mill called a “Trapiche”. See how sugar cane is pressed and the juice is cooked down to a delicious brown sugar. Sample fresh cane juice and the finished product too!




Day 5: Today you will be transported in a private vehicle to the beach.



If you are going to the Pacific:



You will be driven through the back roads through the rain forest of Mastatal.  You will stop for lunch along the way and go for a walk through the jungle to a hidden waterfall then take a tour of an authentic chocolate farm where you will be brought through the process of making chocolate from the pod to the truffle. That evening arrive at a working cattle ranch at the base of the foot hills.




Day 6:

imgp0459In the morning go for a ride with the cowboys as they herd cattle and then ride through the farm to a hidden waterfall only know to them. For those who are interested there is time to experience the thrill of the nearby Sky Mountain Canopy Zipline before heading off to the beach hotel Delfin.



Day 7: 

IMG_0786There is nothing more enjoyable than riding on the open beach with your horse.The beach we will ride on is virtually untouched. It has maintained it’s natural environment  and we often see flocks of scarlet macaws in the trees that line the shore. Riding at low tide the beach is wide and long with lots of room to move if you want to trot and canter.

For lunch we stop at a oceanfront home for a fresh fish lunch and coconut milk. This is a great spot to swim with your horse in the warm waters of the Costa Rican Pacific Ocean. Our horses love the water and will often roll and play in the surf like children.

Day 8:
The horses go home in the morning but you are welcome to book additional nights at the Encantada, continue your Costa Rican adventure visiting other areas of interest, or take a shuttle to SJO international airport . The hotel staff will assist you in making your travel plans. Allow 3 hours for you travel to the airport which costs around $150 for up to 8 passengers.  


If you are going to the Carribean

You will cross the country of Costa Rica, crossing the continental divide and entering the tropical jungle of the Caribbean plains. Just steps from the beach, the Magellin Inn will be your home for the next three days.


Nita Jo Rush Jungle River Trek 2014Day 6: Tuba Creek: In the afternoon get ready for an unforgettable ride into the jungle, following Tuba Creek.!  Cayman’s are hidden in the shallow waters, storks perch on floating logs, howler monkeys swing from tree to tree.   As the sun starts to set we will head back along the beach, breathing in the sea air and feeling the moment of pure peace and calmness.




caribbean 10Day 7: Waterfalls Trek: After breakfast we head to the jungle on a 5 hour horse trek into the mountains to the waterfalls. You will see howler monkeys, sloths, iguanas, poison dart frogs, toucans ,and parrots along the way. Then we head up into the mountains with spectacular views to the ocean. Leaving the horses to rest we head into the rain forest on foot. Arriving at the waterfalls, it is time to jump in the cool mountain waters and enjoy a picnic and a rest!



Day 8: Return to SJO airport to go back to your life, rested and rejuvenated with so many wonderful memories or continue on with your Costa Rican adventure with a future destination of your choice.

  Cost: $2,500 USD per person

This itinerary can be lengthened or shortened to fit your schedule. Just add or subtract $200 for each riding day.

Traveling alone? No problem. We offer this same vacation  for one person for an additional $500 single supplement
