At Barking Horse Farm you will enjoy rustic luxury in our Dream Catcher Tree House.
Since he was a young boy, my son Cyrus dreamed of living in a tree house. In 2008, with the help of his lovely wife Brooke, he realized that dream when construction was begun on what we have now come to call the Dream Catcher Tree House.
More than a simple tree house, this 30 foot octagonal structure, built high it the tree tops from teak and mahogany has a full kitchen, a wrap around deck, two bathrooms and a beautiful, out door, hot water shower. It is nestled in the peaceful corner woods of the farm, but only a short walk down a well groomed trail to the main farm house.
Along with the Dream Catcher Tree House they also built what we call the “Bird House.” A smaller, but just as beautiful, tree house structure that is the master bedroom. Imagine how you will feel, waking up to the sound of tropical birds as the soft forest breezes blow through the screen doors and windows of your tree top hideaway.
During your stay in the Tree House you may choose to:
- prepare your own meals with your favorite ingredients purchased in town or
- hire a local cook to prepare meals just for you (with your groceries)
- puchase family style meals from our property manager and neighbor, Marta.
- (for meal prices please visit our rates page)
We invite you to stay in our Dream Catcher Tree House, meet our friends and neighbors, explore the wondrous natural beauties of Costa Rica AND ride horses every day.
Barking Horse Farm is located in the small, rural, and peaceful village of San Rafael de Puriscal, far from tourist areas . The people in this village live much as they have for generations, farming sugar cane, cacao, beans, plantains and bananas, by keeping honey bees, by harvesting and milling hard woods and by raising pigs, cattle and milking cows. And of course there are the cowboys and their horses to herd the cattle.
We have been living in this town since 2004, becoming part of this rural community.
