Harvesting Herbs

Harvesting and food production are at the heart of the farm. There is nothing as satisfying as preparing a meal made with the vegetables harvested from the garden, eggs collected from the chickens, fruit from the trees, and milk  from the goats you milked that day.

Hola from upstate New York, USA
As a former ceramic sculptor/production potter and dairy goat farmer, I was delighted to come upon your site. It feels most of the US expat sites seem to focus on beach front properties and real estate investment.
Barking Horse Farm was the first I have found where folks are raising and preparing food in Costa Rica’s generous year ’round climate and offering farm-based respite for weary tourists.
Entering my fortieth year of organic gardening and raising medicinal perennials in the northeast mountain country of upstate NY, I am exploring places that offer the opportunity to be a year ’round cultivator.

Your garden looks great. When I was visiting an organic farm in Brazil, they had a lot of problems growing food plants, such as tomatoes, that are common in the US because of viruses and insects. Do you grow tomatoes? I was thinking about bringing some seeds…

    • Barking Horse Farm says:

Yes we do grow tomatoes except that we do have some bugs sometimes. We have an organic pesticide with a base of garlic and hot peppers that help keep the bugs away.
